34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 12:33-34
I have a younger brother and younger sister. There was a time when my mom, because she worked to support us, would leave me in charge and I was responsible for making sure all of the things she wanted done before she came home, got done. Well you can imagine how that worked out. My brother and sister didn't want to do any chores and really didn't take kindly to me barking, giving, or telling them orders. Because I don't think they understood my mom wasn't suggesting we should, but rather telling us we better we would get in arguments and fights. We'd call her on her job (almost to the point of getting her wrote up because we called so much) to say he said, she said, they did or didn't do...and eventually my mom would tell us......" Look, you all are brothers and sisters.....you need to know how to get along. One day I will be gone, and then what? Will you all hate each other? I pray not, because at the end of the day, you are all each other have, and brothers and sister should love and protect each other. " Every now and then she would also express to us how sick of our bickering, she was. My mom wanted to us, her kids to be the good ones. The ones that whether we were at school, or over someone's house that they would speak well of us, which would in turn communicate that she was doing a good job as a parent, because her kids were obedient, and loving.
Jesus, much like my mom, knew there was coming a day that He'd have to return to the Father and He wanted to express His deepest desires for His men. It's impossible for the world to KNOW Him, when we can't get along. It always made me feel good when my mom would go to parent teacher conferences and hear how good we were at school. How we "played well" with others or how we " helped" out in class, because that made her look good.
Many of you reading this aren't in school anymore, and maybe your parent(s) have already left to be with the Lord, but do your neighbors, your kids, your co-workers KNOW that you are a disciple of JESUS CHRIST by the way you treat them? That you actively show them love daily? That's really what each of your day comes to.....how did you show them the LOVE of Christ? Maybe you screwed up yesterday....and if you are reading this, this is an indication that He's given you His favor today, to give it a go again.....show them His love through you. LGLP
